WISHES President, Dr Omar Mababaya, addressed on 23 July 2009 the conference with the topic "Imperatives of Moderation and Tolerance in the Majority-Minority Relations". Amid the current realities and challenges facing the Muslims in the Philippines and elsewhere, Mababaya emphasized that moderation and tolerance are inherent in the Islamic worldview. He also asserted that moderation and tolerance are essential prerequisites of development in the majority-minority relations. Moderation reflects balanced life -- i.e., aspiring for the best in this world and in the hereafter. In order to have a peaceful and progressive community, all memebers of the society need to aspire for mutual moderation, tolerance and mindset shift – achievable thru teamwork, wisdom, networking, planning, organizational learning and education.

Mababaya stressed that Muslims need not be apologetic.  They ought to practice Islam wholeheartedly; pursue actions and plans for the pleasure of Allah. They need to unite and serve as a role model for achieving moderation and tolerance in the majority-minority relations. Every Muslim must seek authentic Islamic knowledge to uphold the Islamic identity through offering well-balanced curriculum on Aqeedah, Personality Development and Da’wah according to the Qur'an and the Sunnah.

Mababaya was one of the more than 200 Muslim religious, business, and community leaders who participated in the 1st Metro Manila Muslim Leaders Tripartite Conference ,which addressed pressing issues affecting Islam and Muslims, particularly concerning peace, tolerance and moderation.

Various foreign Muslim dignitaries and guests from Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Malaysia and Germany addressed the event.
