Rewards
for Righteousness
Allâh
the Exalted gives
rewards to anyone who does a single righteous deed. Allâh
will pay them (in full) their reward. Both the Qur’ân
and the Sunnah tell us:
“As to those who believe and work righteousness verily We shall not suffer to perish the reward of any who does a (single) righteous deed.” (Qur’ân 18:30)
“As to those who believe and work righteousness verily We shall not suffer to perish the reward of any who do a (single) righteous deed. For them will be Gardens of Eternity; beneath them rivers will flow; they will be adorned therein with bracelets of gold and they will wear green garments of fine silk and heavy brocade; they will recline therein on raised thrones. How good the recompense! How beautiful a couch to recline on!” (Qur’ân 18:31)
"As to those who believe and work righteousness Allâh will pay them (in full) their reward; but Allâh loves not those who do wrong.” (Qur’ân 3:57)
Abu
Hurairah
narrated that Allâh’s
Messenger
said, “If any one
of you improve (follows strictly) his Islâmic religion then his good deeds will
be rewarded ten times to seven hundred times for each good deed and a bad deed
will be recorded as it is.” (Bukhâri 1/40)
Jarir
narrated that ...
Allâh’s Messenger
said:
“He who sets a good precedent in Islâm, there is a reward for him for
this (act of goodness) and reward of those also who acted according to it
subsequently, without any deduction from their rewards. He who sets in Islâm an
evil precedent, there is upon him its burden, and the burden of those also who
acted upon it subsequently, without any deduction from their burden.”
(Muslim 2219)
Anas
ibn Malik
narrated that Allâh’s
Messenger
said: “Verily,
Allâh does not treat a believer unjustly in regard to his virtues. He would
confer upon him (His blessings) in this world and would give him reward in the
Hereafter. And as regards a non-believer, he would be made to taste the reward
(of virtue in this world) what he has done for himself so much when it would be
the Hereafter, he would find no virtue for which he should be rewarded.”
(Muslim 6739)
Allâh
does not distinguish anyone, man or woman, when He gives rewards.
He makes it clear that He gives due rewards to anyone, male of female,
who does a righteous deed. He says:
“If any do deeds of righteousness be they male or female and have faith they will enter heaven and not the least injustice will be done to them.” (Qur’ân 4:124)
“Whoever works righteousness man or woman and has faith verily to him will We give a new life a life that is good and pure and We will bestow on such their reward according to the best of their actions.” (Qur’ân 16:97)
"He that works evil will not be requited but by the like thereof: and he that works a righteous deed whether man or woman and is a believer such will enter the Garden (of Bliss): therein will they have abundance without measure.” (Qur’ân 40:40)
Verily, Allâh is ever just as being the Just is part of His Divine Attributes. He makes it clear that He will surely reward the righteous for their good deeds and give due punishment to the unbelievers for their evil deeds. Allâh the Most Just says:
“Shall We treat those who believe and work deeds of righteousness the same as those who do mischief on earth? Shall We treat those who guard against evil the same as those who turn aside from the right?” (Qur’ân 38:28)
“Except such as believe and do righteous deeds: for they shall have a reward unfailing. Then what can after this contradict you; as to the Judgment (to come)? Is not Allâh the wisest of Judges?” (Qur’ân 95:6-8)
“What! do those who seek after evil ways think that We shall hold them equal with those who believe and do righteous deeds that equal will be their Life and their death? Ill is the judgment that they make.” (Qur’ân 45:21)
“Not equal are the blind and those who (clearly) see: nor are (equal) those who believe and work deeds of righteousness and those who do evil. Little do you learn by admonition!” (Qur’ân 40:58)
“Verily for the righteous are Gardens of Delight in the Presence of their Rabb (Cherisher and Sustainer). Shall We then treat the People of Faith like the People of Sin?” (Qur’ân 68:34-35)
“Whoever works righteousness benefits his own soul; whoever works evil it is against his own soul: nor is your Rabb (Cherisher and Sustainer) ever unjust (in the least) to His servants.” (Qur’ân 41:46)
For
our benefit, we must strive hard to be righteous and do more deeds of
righteousness. Allâh’s promise
to the righteous is a reward that will never fail. Every good deed done is
recorded:
“So whoever does righteous good deeds while he is a believer, his efforts will not be rejected. Verily We record it for him (in his Book of deeds).” (Qur’ân 21:94)
Verily,
Allâh will not suffer the reward of the righteous to perish. This we should believe for the Almighty truly keeps His
promise:
“Except to those who believe and work righteous deeds: for them is a Reward that will never fail.” (Qur’ân 84-25)
“And establish regular prayers at the two ends of the day and at the approaches of the night: for those things that are good remove those that are evil: be that the word of remembrance to those who remember (their Rabb (Cherisher and Sustainer)): And be steadfast in patience; for verily Allâh will not suffer the reward of the righteous to perish.” (Qur’ân 11:114-115)
“But those who believe and do deeds of righteousness ľ We shall soon admit them to Gardens, with rivers flowing beneath,ľ to dwell therein forever. Allâh’s promise is the truth, and whose word can be truer than Allâh’s?” (Qur’ân 4:122)
“To Him will be your return of all of you. The promise of Allâh is true and sure. It is He Who begins the process of Creation and repeats it that He may reward with justice those who believe and work righteousness but those who reject Him will have nothing but draughts of boiling fluids and a Penalty grievous: because they did reject Him.” (Qur’ân 10:4)
“For those who believe and work righteous deeds there will be Gardens of Bliss to dwell therein. The promise of Allâh is true: and He is Exalted in power Wise.” (Qur’ân 31:8-9)
Verily,
Allâh fulfills His promise. He
gives reward to every single deed done by anyone, male or female. Let us spend
our time, money, efforts and everything Allâh has given us including patience
to work for righteousness. Let us
persevere and be constant towards doing righteous deeds so that we may be among
those who will attain the following tremendous rewards from our Rabb (Cherisher
and Sustainer):
1.
Most honored in the sight of Allâh
“O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know each other (not that you may despise each other). Verily the most honored of you in the sight of Allâh is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allâh has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things).” (Qur’ân 49:13)
‘Abdullah
Bin ‘Amir
narrated
that the Prophet
never used bad
language. He used to say, “The
best amongst you are those who have the best manners and character.”
(Bukhâri 4/759; 8/56)
2.
Allâh will protect and befriend the righteous
“For my Protector is Allâh, Who revealed the Book, and He will befriend the righteous.” (Qur’ân 7:196)
“They will be of no use to you in the sight of Allâh: it is only Wrongdoers (that stand as) protectors one to another: but Allâh is the Protector of the Righteous.” (Qur’ân 45:19)

bring nearer to Allâh
“It is not your wealth nor your sons that will bring you nearer to Us in degree: but only those who believe and work Righteousness these are the ones for whom there is a multiplied Reward for their deeds while secure they (reside) in the dwellings on high!” (Qur’ân 34:37)
5.
Key to power, authority, security
and peace
“Allâh has promised to those among you who believe and work righteous deeds that He will of a surety grant them in the land inheritance (of power) as He granted it to those before them; that He will establish in authority their religion the one which He has chosen for them; and that He will change (their state) after the fear in which they (lived) to one of security and peace: `They will worship Me (alone) and not associate aught with Me.' If any do reject faith after this they are rebellious and wicked.” (Qur’ân 24:55)
Salman
al-Farishi narrated that Allâh’s Messenger
said, “Nothing but supplication averts the decree, and nothing but
righteousness increases life.” (Tirmidhi
2234)

Love from Allâh
“Verily, those who believe (in the Oneness of Allâh and in His Messenger) and work deeds of righteousness, the Most Gracious [Allâh] will bestow love for them.” (Qur’ân 19: 96)

“Then as to those who believed and did righteous deeds their Rabb (Cherisher and Sustainer) will admit them to His Mercy: that will be the Achievement for all to see.” (Qur’ân 45:30)
Abu
Hurairah
narrated that Allâh’s
Messenger
said, “The deeds
of anyone of you will not save you (from the Hell Fire).”
They said, “Even you, (will not be saved by your deeds), O Allâh’s
Messenger?” He
said: “No, even I, unless and until Allâh bestows His Mercy on
me. Therefore, do good deeds properly, sincerely and moderately, and worship Allâh
in the forenoon and in the afternoon and during a part of the night, and always
adopt a middle, moderate, regular course whereby you will reach your Target
(Paradise).” (Bukhâri
8/ 470)
9.
Forgiveness from Allâh
“To those who believe and do deeds of righteousness has Allâh promised forgiveness and a great reward.” (Qur’ân 5:9)
“Your Rabb (Cherisher and Sustainer) knows best what is in your hearts. If you do deeds of righteousness verily He is Most Forgiving to those who turn to Him again and again (in true penitence).” (Qur’ân 17:25)
“And if any strive (with might and main), they do so for their own souls: for Allâh is free of all needs from all creation. “But those who believe and work righteousness no burden do We place on any soul but that which it can bear they will be companions of the garden therein to dwell (for ever). And We shall remove from their hearts any lurking sense of injury; beneath them will be rivers flowing; and they shall say: ‘Praise be to Allâh Who hath guided us to this (felicity). Never could we have found guidance had it not been for the guidance of Allâh. Indeed, it was the truth that the Messengers of our Rabb (Cherisher and Sustainer) brought unto us.’ And they Shall hear the cry: "Behold the garden before you! You have been made its inheritors for your deeds (of righteousness).” (Qur’ân 7:42-43)
“And those who believe and work righteous deeds them shall We admit to the company of the Righteous.” (Qur’ân 29:9)
11.
Best home and reward in the hereafter
“What is the life of this world but play and amusement? But best is the home in the Hereafter for those who are righteous. Will you not then understand?” (Qur’ân 6:32)
“But verily the reward of the Hereafter is the best for those who believe and are constant in righteousness.” (Qur’ân 12:57)

Prophet
said, "Allâh said, ‘I have prepared for My righteous slaves (such
excellent things) as no eye has ever seen, nor an ear has ever heard nor a human
heart can ever think of.’” (Bukhâri
9/589)
12. Gardens
of eternity or eternal abode in Paradise
“But give glad tidings to those who believe and work righteousness that their portion is Gardens beneath which rivers flow. “But those who believe and work righteousness will be admitted to Gardens beneath which rivers flow to dwell therein forever with the leave of their Rabb (Cherisher and Sustainer): their greeting therein will be: ‘Peace!’” (Qur’ân 14:23)
“Praises and thanks to Allâh Who has sent to His Servant the Book and has allowed therein no crookedness. [He has made it] Straight [and Clear] in order that He may warn [the godless] of a terrible Punishment from Him. And that He may give Glad Tidings to the Believers who work righteous deeds, that they shall have a goodly Reward, wherein they shall remain forever.” (Qur’ân 18: 1-3)
“As to those who believe and work righteousness verily We shall not suffer to perish the reward of any who do a (single) righteous deed. shall touch them nor shall they (ever) be asked to leave.”
(Qur’ân 15:45-48)

sky. They will not urinate, relieve nature, spit, or have any nasal secretions.
Their combs will be of gold, and their sweat will smell like musk. The aloes-wood will be used in their censers.
Their wives will be houris.
All
of them will look alike and will resemble their father Adam (in stature), sixty
cubits tall.” (Bukhari
4/544)
Jabir
ibn Abdullah
narrated: “I heard Allah’s Messenger
as
saying that the inmates of Paradise would eat and drink but would neither spit,
nor pass water, nor void excrement, nor suffer catarrh. It was said: 'Then, what
would happen with food?' Thereupon he
said: 'They would belch and sweat (and it would be over with their food), and
their sweat would be that of musk and they would glorify and praise Allah as
easily as you breathe.'” (Muslim 6798)
15. No fear of harm, nor grieve and no darkness nor shame shall cover their faces
Those who believe (in the Qur’an) and those who follow the Jewish (scriptures), and the Christians and the Sabians, ľ any who believe in Allâh and the Last Day, and work righteousness, shall have their reward with their Rabb (only God and Sustainer) on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.” (Qur’ân 2:62)

the Fire, death will be brought and will be placed between the Fire and
Paradise, and then it will be slaughtered, and a call will be made (that), 'O
people of Paradise, no more death! O people of the Fire, no more death!’

sorrow.” (Bukhâri 8/ 556)

for they will have neither enmity nor jealousy amongst themselves; everyone will
have two wives from the houris, (who will be so beautiful, pure and
transparent that) the marrow of the bones of their legs will be seen through the
bones and the flesh.” (Bukhari
4/476)
Abu
Sa’id Al Khudri

Messenger

you would remain young and never grow old.
And that you would always live in affluent circumstances and never become

Sustainer).” (Tirmidhi 5657 and Ahmad)

Enter you therein in Peace and Security. This is a Day of Eternal Life!’ There will be for them therein all that they wish’ and there is more with Us.” (Qur’ân 50:31-35)

star in the sky. Their hearts will be as if the heart of a single man,
for they will have neither enmity nor jealousy amongst themselves; everyone will
have two wives from the houris, (who will be so beautiful, pure and
transparent that) the marrow of the bones of their legs will be seen through the
bones and the flesh.” (Bukhari

22.
Abundance without measure or most
excellent provision

23. They
shall have before their Rabb all that they wish for (a fulfillment of the
heart’s desires)
“To the righteous (when) it is said ‘What is it that your Rabb (Cherisher and Sustainer) has revealed?’ they say ‘All that is good.’ To those who do good there is good in this world and the Home of the Hereafter is even better. And excellent indeed is the Home of the righteous Gardens of Eternity which they will enter: beneath them flow (pleasant) rivers: they will have therein all that they wish: thus does Allâh reward the righteous.” (Qur’ân 16:30-31)
“You will see the wrongdoers in fear on account of what they have earned and [the burden of] that must [necessarily] fall on them. But those who believe and work righteous deeds will be in the luxuriant mead of the Gardens. They shall have before their Rabb all that they wish for. That will indeed be the magnificent Bounty [of Allâh]. That is [the Bounty] whereof Allâh gives Glad Tidings to His Servants who believe and do righteous deeds. Say: ‘No reward do I ask of you for this except the love of those near of kin.’ And if anyone earns any good, We shall give Him an increase of good in respect thereof. For Allâh is Most Forgiving, Most Ready to appreciate [service].’” (Qur’ân 42: 22-23)
“Verily for the righteous there will be a fulfillment of (the Heart’s) desires; Gardens enclosed and Grape-vines; companions of equal age; and a cup full (to the brim). No vanity shall they hear therein nor untruth Recompense from your Rabb (Cherisher and Sustainer) a Gift (amply) sufficient (from) the Rabb of the heavens and the earth and all between (Allâh) Most Gracious: none shall have power to argue with Him.” (Qur’ân 78:31-37)
24. In
the presence or good pleasure of Allâh: the supreme success
“Say: ‘shall I give you glad tidings of things far better than those? For the righteous are Gardens in nearness to their Rabb with rivers flowing beneath; therein is their eternal home, with companions pure [and holy] and the good Pleasure of Allâh. For in Allâh’s Sight are [all] His servants.’” (Qur’ân 3: 15)

“The
believers, men and women, are protectors one of another.
They enjoin what is just and forbid what is evil. They observe regular
prayers practice regular charity and obey Allâh and His Messenger
.
On them will Allâh pour His mercy: for Allâh is Exalted in power Wise.
Allâh has promised the believers, men and women, gardens under which rivers
flow to dwell therein and beautiful mansions in gardens of everlasting bliss.
But the greatest bliss is the Good Pleasure of Allâh: that is the
supreme success.” (Qur’ân
9:71-72)
Suhayb
ibn Sinan Ar-Rumi
narrated that Allâh’s
Messenger
said:
“When those deserving of Paradise would enter Paradise, the Blessed and
the Exalted would ask: ‘Do you wish Me to give you anything more?’ They
would say: ‘Have You not brightened our faces? Have You not made us enter
Paradise and saved us from Fire?’ He (the narrator) said: “He
(Allâh) would lift
the veil, and of things given to them nothing would be dearer to them than the
sight of their Rabb, the Mighty and the Glorious.”
(Muslim 347)
‘Abdullah
ibn Umar
narrated that Allâh’s
Messenger
said, “The
lowest in station among the inhabitants of Paradise will be he who looks at his
gardens, his wives, his bliss, his servants, and his couches stretching a
thousand years’ journey, and the one who will be most honored by Allâh will
be he who looks at His face morning and evening.”
He then recited, “Faces on that day will be bright, looking at their
Rabb (Cherisher and Sustainer).” (Tirmidhi
5657 and Ahmad)
From the
above Qur’anic Ayât (Verses)
and authentic Ahâdîth, we can therefore say that righteousness
brings tremendous rewards to us. It
is for our benefit that we strive to spend our time, money, efforts and our life
to attain righteousness. Let us
take inspiration (and admonition) from Allâh’s divine statement:
“If anyone does a righteous deed it is to his own benefit; if he does evil it works against (His own soul). In the end will you (all) be brought back to your Rabb (Cherisher and Sustainer).” (Qur’ân 45:15)
